This is one of my earliest pieces. Initially I wanted to convey the feeling of breaking through a mirror. I had broken a mirror at home and kept on dreaming about using that broken mirror to make a piece. This is what came out of it. I also love working with mirror because it allows light to pour in from all angles and to bring some interesting colours at different times of the day.

The mirror is a symbol for the mask that we wear most of the times to please others and I was wearing quite a heavy mask myself: living a life that was geared towards the perfect daughter: a good career, a marriage, a child... the picture of success. Yet I wasn't happy.

What I find really interesting is that the figure that came out of it has very vibrant colours and metaphorically, for me, it means that once we break the mirror that we use to hide behind, then our true colours can come through.

I also find it interesting that I surrounded this character with aura like colours whereas I didn't know much about them then. My subconscious or my superconscious must have known a lot more than my consciousness did.
