I have smoked for over a decade and quit more than once. I have now been a non smoker for over five years, which has been my record so far. I wish I had known about hypnotherapy before I quit smoking though - it would have made my life a lot easier.

Quit smoking easily

With hypnotherapy you only need one session to quit smoking. And then that's it. You are a non smoker. How can it be that simple?

By now, you should already know about the emotional brain, the five year old in you that throws tantrums and likes to be the boss. Well this five year old finds all sorts of excuses for you not to quit: "I am stressed", "I'll do it when I am on holiday", "I am bored", "I don't feel strong enough", "I like smoking", "It's too hard"... " I don't want to put on weight". There is always a good reason for not stopping. And to be frank unless you are actually diagnosed with a serious disease that can be directly linked to smoking, it will continue to fool you with excuses. Even if you were diagnosed with a serious disease such as lung cancer, it might tell you "there is no point now anyway I might as well continue to smoke".

The reason is that your emotional brain is a clever little fellow. It knows that what you are doing is naughty and bad for you but it likes its own habits and hates change. So it will do anything to make you continue to smoke. There is no point telling your emotional mind how bad is smoking for you, it already knows it, but it lives in the present and at the moment smoking hasn't killed you yet so why change.

To quite smoking, all it takes is for you to decide who is going to be the boss: you or your five year old. Then you can take control over your life, put your foot down and establish which part of your brain you would like to take over. I can help you with that.  

Quit without putting weight on

The main reason for women to continue smoking is that they are afraid of putting on some weight if they quit. With hypnotherapy, however, you can quit and slim at the same time. Because once your five year old is under control, it won't be able to replace smoking with cream buns. You will be clear on what your goals are and you won't let it sabotage your decision. It will apply to all your little naughty habits: binge shopping, smoking, lying, drinking, over-eating, cream buns, etc. You think you will be sorting your smoking but you will indeed be going to the root of your addictive personally and this will have ripple effects in your entire life.

Not only your skin will look better, your teeth will be whiter and your breath will be fresher, you will also be healthier and you will feel like exercising more and you will be able to slim - or if you don't want to slim, you will not put any weight on. The reason for this is we will be tackling the psychological issues behind the smoking so they can't find another addiction to latch onto.

Friends and family - other smokers

Each time I quit smoking I was surprised to see that my friends and family weren't that supportive of my decision and actually made life a lot harder for me to stick to my decision to quit. My ex for example, would keep on offering cigarettes to me months after I had quit. Why is this? He was a smoker and most of my friends and relatives too. And none of them wanted to be left behind in the smokers' group with me ahead of them and free of that destructive habit. It's human nature.

If you find yourself in a similar decision, don't be sad. Just stick to your guns. Why do they do that? Because they don't want you to be better than them. If you know what to expect you will be better armed against their tactics to sabotage your new non smoking you.

New friends

And in the long run, if you haven't managed to inspire them to do the same, then you might make new friends who will respect your decision and support you. There is nothing sad about this. It is wise to be able to acknowledge when friendships don't work anymore and move on.

I managed to be a non smoker for years whilst married to one. But now that my partner is a non smoker too, I am so much happier. Not only for that reason, but it helps. It used to be a lot more difficult to quit when pubs allowed smoking. Now it's almost a breeze. It takes a lot of efforts to continue to be a smoker now, as a matter of fact. By the way, my ex still smokes. You can't win them all.
