Mediums will tell you that it takes years for them to reach the level that they do and painstaking efforts along the way. It is the same for most clairvoyants. The ones that claim that they have been clairvoyant from childhood and always seen and heard clearly are far and between - even when this is the case, that sort of clairvoyant needs proper training to do readings. Most of us have been closed down on an intuitive level by our education and I was no exception.
Spiritual healing
I started off my clairvoyant journey as a healer. This is very important because it does set the tone for my readings and shows that I care about the well being of my clients. I trained for a year within a group and I let my hands go where they needed. Little by little this has increased my clairvoyance. I learnt that this work was done in service of God and that this should be the only motivation for doing this work. Wanting to cure and help people was not a priority, as in some cases, curing is not God's will. Serving God and humankind is the only aim.
Reiki training
I feel that training as a reiki I, then reiki II and finally at the level of Reiki Master Teacher (this took over four years in total) has also enriched my clairvoyance. It made me realise that healing and angelic clairvoyant guidance come from the same place, the same source.
The more I worked to be a pure channel of light, the more clairvoyance started to come through me. However I was still not comfortable doing tarot readings other than for myself, for friends and family. I certainly didn't feel comfortable charging for it. At the same time, I no longer understood why healers despised clairvoyants and why mediums considered themselves superior to tarot readers. For me, we were just one big family of people working for spirit.
Until one day I went to a psychic fayre and a medium doing tarot readings told me I should be doing the work she was doing.
Trance channeling training
I did a five day intensive training as a trance medium a couple of years ago. And sat in a circle for over a year. This doesn't make me a medium but it has added a dimension to my work. It has also helped me understand that I was a natural channeler at all levels and in every day life. I am now able to recognise it and be grateful for it in all areas of my life: private, art, writing, reading tarot and healing.
Tarot School of New York
A year after I started reading the tarot professionally, I signed up with the Tarot School of New York, founded by Ruth and Wald Amberstone. I discovered them through my numerous readings on esoteric subjects. I liked their books and looked for them on the internet. I embraced their teachings with enthusiasm and excitment. They are the best teachers I know in the world of tarot.
Studying the tarot can be a life time job as it is so complex and rich and it ties into all esoteric traditions, particularly the Kabbalah. It brings some depth and helps me root the symbolism in many fascinating cultures and traditions into my own practice. It gives me incredible material to interpret symbols and cards and to tell a story from cards picked by clients. It has made cards speak to each other in a much richer and fascinating manner for my clients' benefit.
I am still a student of the Tarot School but you can guess now that this could last a life time. In the realm of spiritual enfoldment, there is really no time when you can claim that you made it and that you know it all. This is the spirit in which I continue on my own path of self development.
Art therapy
I have started a course in art therapy with the City of Bath College in September of this year. I believe this will bring another dimension to my work as an intuitive but also as a healer, enabling me to add an important dimension to my mosaic of offerings
