Stress is a very modern plague

What is stress?

"Stress is the consequence of the failure to adapt to change, specifically the inability to respond appropriately to emotional or physical threats to the organism, whether actual or imagined" according to the definition in Wikipedia. 

Stress is a feeling but it has very real physical consequences: irritability, muscular tension, inability to concentrate, loss of sleep or appetite, IBS or difficult or painful digestion and a variety of other physical reactions, such as headaches and accelerated heart rate.

You will recognise the main bodily reactions that are triggered by the emotional mind.

What are the remedies?

Anything that will help you gain control of your life again:

  • work at the root of your stress: simplify your life - reduce your working hours, ask for help, trim down on the activities, get more quiet time, don't be such a perfectionist, don't be so ambitious, sort out your priorities, declutter your life and your mind (check my feng shui section), if stress is induced by illness make time to heal yourself and make yourself the priority in your life, etc.
  • carry with you a beautiful picture or a perfume that relaxes you and that you love and take them out of your bag at regular intervals during the day to lift your spirits and get mental pauses of relaxation.
  • manage the symptoms by increasing the endorphin flow in your body: exercise, meditate, use relaxation tapes, surround yourself with supporting friends and meaningful relationships, spend time in your garden, get a pet, join an art or craft class, get some fresh air etc.
  • improve your sleep. Reduce all REM enemies in your lifestyle: tobacco, alcohol, drugs, etc. Click here to read more tips for sleep.
  • make sure your home is a heaven and a shelter for you: declutter, make it harmonious, redecorate it, love it, have it feng shui-ed and cleansed energetically  by a reiki practitioner (I can do it). After all that, if you still hate the place, move homes.

Take control of your life

Stop feeling out of control in your life. Watch your thoughts. Read about how the mind works and start doing your homework on positive thinking. Don't live in the past or in the future. Don't wait for your life to be perfect to be happy. It doesn't work that way.

First you need to find peace and happiness inside, then your life will reflect this peace and harmony and it will become as you want it to be. As long as you can't think of what you want but instead focus on what you don't want (fears) you are bound to fail.
