What are the different levels for? What can you do with them?
Traditionally there are three levels of initiation into reiki: I, II and III. Reiki is simplicity and that goes for the levels too: Reiki I is for working on yourself, your friends and family, Reiki II is for working on other people (strangers) and Reiki III is for those who want to take the reiki to the next level and in time start teaching.
Reiki I
Reiki I can be used on yourself, your friends and your family. You will soon learn after you do your reiki I that the things in your life that need sorting will start to crop up. Unless, of course you come to reiki with a perfectly sorted life... but who can really seriously claim that?
We all have emotional baggage, unresolved issues and a fair amount of dusty thinking. Bringing the reiki energy into your life is going to highlight the areas of your life that need sorting. So the first rule of gold for a reiki I is "Heal thyself". Start with you!
If you come with an attitude of trying to sort others but "no no no I don't need any sorting thank you": you're in for a surprise. It's called a healing crisis. And if you don't learn from it, you won't progress. Why do the reiki masters put you through such a difficult test? Because until you are sorted (we are talking here fairly sorted) how can you pretend helping others?
Reiki is a wonderful addition to your life and can be used in all situations. It should be a must for any parent, teacher, doctor, nurse, psychotherapist, counsellor, masseuse... to name a few. My dream is that all areas of society would be opened to reiki and apply it in their own lives. That includes lawyers, insurers, and politicians. Wow, what a different world it would be. I am pretty radical as you can see!!!
All children should also do their reiki I. Especially the new generation of children who are called indigo, crystals and rainbows.
Integrating reiki I energy into your life can take as little as three months... but can last a few years.

Reiki II
Once you have done your reiki I training and experienced with the reiki energy for about three months, you might want to progress to the next level. Reiki II is the stage where you have sorted your own garden and you can now move onto helping others. This does not mean that you are now sorted forever and you can rest on your laurels. Why? Because as long as you are on this earth, you are meant to continue to learn and progress.
At the level II, you will be shown and taught three of the four Reiki symbols. There is a huge debate about whether the symbols should be kept secret and there is pros and cons for both sides. Unlike most people involved in the debate, I have read the books of authors who share the symbols and found that they had a valid case for doing so. However, I am of the traditional school and I believe that there is some merit in keeping them secret and only revealing them to reiki II initiates. The reason I believe this is right is that I feel that until you understand the sacredness of symbols (all symbols, not only the reiki ones), you shouldn't mess around with them, unless you want to end up like Merlin's apprentice in the famous Disney cartoon.
There is sometimes a distinction between Reiki II and Reiki Therapist. I have myself pondered over it because initially I thought either you are a reiki II or you're not. But I have learnt. Reiki II is what it says on the box: to work on others. Reiki Therapist means making a living from it. Not every Reiki II is a Reiki Therapist. But all Reiki Therapists are Reiki II. I believe you can progress onto your reiki II and apply it with tremendous benefits without wanting to make a living out of it.

Reiki Therapist
If you train with me, to be able to move onto the Reiki Therapist, you will need to complete a certicate in anatomy and physiology, a counselling skills certificate and a portfolio of case studies and essays. You will need to take proper insurance and I will help you understand the legalities of setting up a practice and some marketing tactics of setting up a practice. It is an additional one day training after the classic two day workshop for Reiki II. I will be posting more information about the reiki therapist certificate soon. If you want to find out more about it in the meantime, please contact me through the Contact Me Page.
